    A Letter to The Editor of the Painstville Herald 1949

 Hawaii

 August 17, 1944

Dear Editor;

     I felt like I should drop you a line or so in appreciation of the fine paper you put out. I am one of the boys that left Johnson County on May 17, 1944 for the Navy. I read your paper while at home. My father received one every week. Now my father has subscribed for me and oh boy, how we guys yearn to get hold of it to see what everybody at home is doing. I sure love to read the letters sent in by the boys in service. I may learn where some of them are and have a chance to run into them. Here are some of the boys that went into the Navy when I did: Marion Castle, Jr., Woodrow Collins, Vincent Plummer, Lawrence Jennings and Monroe Castle and some boys from Paintsville who are good pals of mine. We don’t know how long we will be here, but I hope the Herald will follow me wherever I go. So thanks a lot and keep sending it. Best of luck to you and your staff and the Herald.

                                                                                                              Yours

                                                                                                       Burdette Kretzer, S 2-c
