John Lowell Barber
John graduated from Flat Gap high school May 8th 1942.......He enlisted in the army April 20, 1943He left for Europe Jun.16,1944......arrived Jun.27,1944 he was in the Signal Corps and a repeater man Telephone.He never talked much about the war, except for a funny story now and then......One that that comes to mind.......His platoon was camping in a big field on the edge of a large wooded area.........Pap (as I called him since he was my grandfather) said they REALLY got tired of eating K-rations so himself and a few others came up with an Idea....... He pulled his jeep towards the woods and a bunch of the others went up the road and eased up into the woods .........As they flushed deer out Pap would shot them with the 50 caliber machine gun that was mounted on the hood..........He said they all ate good for a while after that............John left Europe March 10, 1946 and arrived in the US. March 22, 1946, He was given an Honorable Discharge on March 27,1946He then served in the U.S. Armed Reserves from March 28,1946 to June 29,1949He then served in the U.S. National Guards from Sep.6, 1949 to May 24, 1975He then retired with the rank of Sergeant First Class (E-7)John Married Katherine Roberts of Paintsville Dec. 7,1946.........They Moved to Ashland Ky, where June 9th 1948 they had a brand new baby boy, Johnny William Barber...........Jan.9th,1950 they had a girl, Judith Yvonda Barber....................Oct. 24,1955 they had one last girl Mary Lou BarberJohn retired from Semet Solvay/Armco................Lived a full life, raised Three kids, four grandkids, and one great grandson, with another one coming, when he pasted away.John Past away at Kings daughters Hospital Dec. 21, 1997John Lowell Barber was a Johnson Co. boy at heart.......Never forgetting where He came from Red Bush, Johnson Co. Ky.

Barber'' was born april 29 1924.....His father ( John My Brick Wall ) died when he was three..........I don't know where he's from..I think Virginia or West Virginia ...I'm not real sure of his name at this point.........They lived In Red Bush .........In a house that is supposed to be the first post office there.....I was told He is buried by the house one top a hill In Hamilton cemetery along side of Martin,and Glockus Hay,and his daughter Katherine...None of which I can find I might add.......I was also told he worked in the oil fields, and might have died of asthma....Thank YouJohnny W.
