Alexander Cameron Passes Suddenly
Alexander Cameron, widely known coal and oil operator of this city, died unexpectedly Sunday evening while driving his automobile on College Street. His car crashed into a telephone pole near Chandler's Store and he expired before medical aid could reach him.
Mr. Cameron was born in New York City on January 3, 1895, the son of the late Alexander and Margaret Gordon Cameron. He came to Kentucky in 1924 and was associated with John C. C. Mayo in Ashland. After his marriage in 1927 to Miss Ann Hager of Paintsville, he came to this city where he since made his home.
A veteran of World War I, he was wounded while serving overseas in this conflict.
He was educated in the schools of New York City and attended Columbia University.
Mr. Cameron was of Scotch ancestry, and in his were exemplified the fine Scottish traits of courage, honesty, and sincerity. He was recognized as a gentleman by all who knew him, and to those who knew him intimately, he will be remembered as a man of honor and integrity whose
character was above reproach.
He rendered a great contribution to the economy of this area in the development of coal and oil resources. He was active in this business until the time of his death.
He is survived by his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Michel Loeb, Bedford, Mass., and two grandsons, William and Stephen Alexander Loeb. The latter was born on the day of his death.
Other survivors are three sisters, Mrs. Margaret Gordon Cameron, New York City; Mrs. Edward C. Evans, Southern Pines, N.C., and Mrs. George Foley, Silver Springs, New Jersey.
The funeral will be at the Paintsville Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. Thursday by Rev. Charles G. Dearing assisted by Rev. W. F. Pettus.
The family has requested that flowers be omitted and the expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Paintsville chapter of the American Cancer Society.
