Know all men by these presents that I, Thomas C Brown of the county of Hickman & State of Kentucky, have this day bargained & sold of the same County & state aforesaid for and in consideration of the sum of seventy six dollars to me in hand paid the receipt of which I do by these presents acknowledged the following property viz Two red cows & calves, one spotted bull & red heifer harked crop slit under bit & over bit in the right ear, six grown hogs & 15 shoats generally spotted & marked like the cattle, three feather beds & furniture viz sheets, blankets, counterpanes – mosquito bars, three bedsteads, one yanky clock, two tables, one set knives & forks, two set plates & tea cups & saucers, one pair shovel & longs, one looking glass, two pots, one large kettle, one over & lid, together with one beaureau & cupboard. The right and title to the above described property I warrant to the said Caldwell Hannah & Co forever. Now should the said Thomas C Brown, his heirs or assigns pay to said Caldwell Hanna & Co the aforesaid sum of seventy six dollars & That on or before the tenth day of May next then this obligation to be void and of no effect, otherwise, to be in full force & virtue in law. I, Henry L Edrington, clerk of the county court for the county aforesaid do certify that the foregoing Mortgage from Thomas C Brown to Caldwell, Hanna & Co was produced to me and acknowledged by the said Brown to be his act and deed for the purposes therein mentioned. Whereupon the same together with this certificate hath been duly recorded in my office. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 27th day of October 1835.
