Downing to Judith Ashford - Deed Book A Page 384

Know all men by these presents that I Sinai Downing of the county of Lawrence State of Alabama have lent and by these presents do lend to Judith Ashford Wife of William Ashford and her children by the said William A Negro Boy a Mulatto by the name of William about Nineteen years of age and the said William Ashford being about to remove to Hickman County Kentucky I do hereby alien and permit the said Judith to carry the said Negro Boy to Kentucky for the comfort and maintenance of the said Judith and her children reserving to my self the right to reclaim the said Negro when I think proper.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set
my hand and affixed my seal this 9th day of February 1832.

I William Ashford hereby disclaim and
right title to the said Negro mentioned in the within loan to my wife and so far
as I have any interest in right of my wife assent to the condition of loan.

Alabama Lawrence County Towit:
Personally appeared before me John White Judge of the 4th Judicial
Circuit of the State of Alabama Alexander Sale and Thomas Ashford witnesses to
the within deed and being by me duly sworn made oath that the within named Sinai
Downing signed sealed and delivered the within deed on the day of its date for
the purposes therein expressed. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand
and affixed my seal.
