Commonwealth of Kentucky vs William Piner - Profanity
The Commonwealth of Kentucky
Hickman County & Circuit set;
The
Grand Jurors duly empanelled sworn and charged to enquire for said Commonwealth
and the body of the county aforesaid at the October Term of the Hickman Circuit
Court in the year 1839, upon their oaths present that William Piner last of said
county yeoman, on the 23rd day of October in the year 1839 at the county &
circuit aforesaid did then and there profanely curse and swear the following
wicked and profane oath, viz: “I will be God damned to Hell fire” contrary
to the form of the Statue in that case made and provided & against the peace
and dignity of the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Warrant:
To the Sheriff of Hickman County, Greeting:
We
command you to summon William Piner to appear before the Judge of our Hickman
County Circuit Court, at the Court-House in the town of Clinton on the first day
of next April term, to answer a certain presentment of the Grand Jury, found
against him at the October term, 1839 for profanity against the peace and
dignity of the Commonwealth of Kentucky; and have then there this writ. Witness,
WHH Taylor Clerk of our said Court, at the Court-House aforesaid, this 21 day
Nov’r 1839 and in the 48 year of the Commonwealth. WHH Taylor
You are likewise commanded to summon Leander Berry and JH McWhorter
