Thomas Tarver

One of Hickman County's pioneers, arriving in early 1830. Thomas Tarver was born 1770/80 in North Carolina. The 1784-1787 State Census and the Federal Census of 1790 and 1800 reflect all the Tarver's located in North Carolina were in Northampton, Halifax District. Thomas Tarver married Susannah (maiden name unknown) in North Carolina before 1794. By census date 1820, Thomas and family were living in Wilson County, Tennessee. December 6, 1829, Thomas sold his land and the family once again moved. Moving with Thomas and Susannah were their children and spouses, except two. All the adult males of the family received land grants. Thomas Tarver's is recorded in the State Land Records, book l, page 457 (S E Qr Sec 2, T2R2W). A second grant can be found in book, 3, page 233(N W Qr Sec 11, T2R2W). Each for 160 acres.
