Revolutionary War Pension Application of Joseph Baker State of Kentucky County of Garrard |
Amended petition and schedule of Joseph Baker District of Kentucky, Sct. On this 21st day of August 1820 personally appeared in open court being the county court of Garrard being a court of record in aforesaid District, Joseph Baker, aged about sixty-nine years, resident in Garrard County in said District, who being first duly sworn according to Law doth on his oath declare that he served in the Revolutionary War as follows - He enlisted in the year 1780 with Capt. John Wilson in the 10th North Carolina Regiment, commanded by Col. Zachariah Dozier for the term of 12 months on Continental establishment and served out his time and obtained an honorable discharge, which he has lost. He further states that in a few days after the said term was out, he again enlisted for the term of six months and served out the said term and obtained a discharge for the same, together with his former service together. And I do solemnly swear that I was a resident citizen of the United States on the 18th day of March 1818, and I have not since that time by gift, sale or any other way disposed of my property or any part thereof with intent thereby so to diminish it as to bring myself within the provisions of an Act of Congress entitled “An Act to provide for certain persons engaged in the land and naval service of the United States in the Revolutionary War,” passed on the 18th day of March 1818. And that I have not nor had any person in trust for me, any property or securities contracts or debts due to me, nor have I any income other than what is contained in the schedule hereto annexed and by me subscribed to wit. One horse beast of the value of ten dollars and no more Six head of cattle of the value of forty dollars and no more Five head of hogs of the value of ten dollars and no more Making in all sixty dollars. That he owes about forty dollars. His occupation is agriculture, that he has a wife about fifty years of age living with him. That he has ten children, that he has but three living with him, two boys and one girl. One of the boys about 13 and the other about 15 years of age, the girl is between seven and eight years of age.
