Telephus Pepper Thompson was born in Mason Co. Ky. to Andrew Peyton Thompson and Elizabeth Pepper November 15,1813. He was married at The Forks of Dix River Baptist Church in Garrard County to Elcinda Swope in December 1838. Elcinda was the daughter of Samuel Swope and Artemecia Kemper and was born in Garrard Co. August 16, 1814. Burdett Kemper, uncle of Telephus, performed the ceremony at Dix Church. Telephus's grandfather, James Thompson was the first surveyor in Lincoln Co. Ky. which included Garrard and was one of the founders of Dix Church and also father in law of Burdett Kemper. Telephus and Elcinda lived on one of the farms on MillCreek Rd. and also owned land on Johnson Fork of The Licking River which was partly in Mason and partly in Fleming Co. They had the following children. Benjamin F. Thompson, America Hamper Thompson, Artemecia Kemper Thompson, Elcinda Thompson and Lucinda Thompson. Elcinda Swope Thompson died at home of typhoid fever October 13,1854 and is buried in the family cemetery on Millcreek Rd. Telephus then married Mary Jane McCarty of Fleming Co. on February 7, 1855. By this marriage there were five children. Andrew W. Thompson, Mattie Lizzie Thompson, Susan McCarty Thompson, Sallie Thompson and David Thompson. Telephus died at Mayslick December 26,1866 at 53 Yrs old and Mary Jane died the next month on January 15, 1867. All of the children had to be placed in guardianship with relatives because the eldest was only eleven yrs old. They are both buried in the Mayslick Cemetery. Mary Jane was the daughter of David and Susan McCarty and her brother, Thomas was the clerk of Fleming Co. at the time of her death. The above mentioned Andrew Peyton Thompson was the son of James Thompson, a deputy surveyor of Kentucky County Va. the first surveyor of Lincoln Co. Va., a revolutionary soldier and patriot,a justice at Harrodsburg, a justice in Madison,Mercer and Garrard Co. a senator and representative in Garrard Co. His mother, Ruthie Peyton was the daughter of Capt. James Peyton who came to Lincoln Co. Va. as a pioneer and received land grants of 2400 acres. Her mother was Susannah Threlkeld, daughter of Christopher Threlkeld of Stafford Co. Va. Elcinda Swopes gr. Grandfather was Benecict Swope who was a Reformed minister of Pennsylvania and Maryland and chaplain in the Revolution. He was also a large landholder. Elcinda's grandfather on her mothers side was Frederick Burdett of Virginia and Garrard Co. and is listed in the DAR as being in the revolutionary war. Telephus Thompsons mother was Elizabeth (Betsy) Pepper, daughter of Wm. Holton Pepper and Lucy Smith. William was the son of Samuel Pepper Sr, a patriot in the revolution, and Lucy was the daughter of Capt. Joseph Smith a soldier and patriot in the revolution.
