Sallie Belle Hurt Family

Our connection with the HURT family is through Sallie Belle HURT, dau of
John Harrison HURT and Eliza Ann YATER (YEATER). Sallie Belle married to
John Wesley TATEM (spelled T-A-T-E-M at that time, earlier it was TATUM).
John Harrison HURT was born 7 April, 1822, in Garrard Co., Ky. to Henry
HURT and Nancy DANCY. Henry HURT is the brother of Smith HURT.
John Harrison HURT married second wife, Eliza Ann YATER, 27 June 1854, in
Garrard Co., Ky. She was the dau of Coonrod YATER and Keziah SADDLER.
I am looking for those interested or knowing of one Samuel Harrison TATUM, of Silver Creek, Madison County, Kentucky, born 9 September, 1821, in Knox County, Kentucky. He married to Amanda MOBERLY, a daughter of Jacob MOBERLY and Catherine TUDOR, in Madison County, Kentucky, on 27 May, 1850. Their children would be:
A. Matilda Catherine "Kate" TATUM, born in December, 1852, in Madison
County, Kentucky. She married a man with the surname of HATTER.
B. William Bloomer TATUM, born 3 September, 1856, in Madison County,
Kentucky. He is buried in the Gilead Church Cemetery near Kirksville,
Madison County, Kentucky.
C. Joseph Alfred TATUM, born 8 February, 1860.
D. Mary Jane "Mollie" TATUM, who married John HAMMONS and then Timothy
LAMB.
E. John Wesley TATUM, born in 1861 and married Sallie Belle HURT, a
daughter of John Harrison HURT and Eliza Ann YATER. Their children were:
E1. Elizabeth "Lizzie" TATEM, born 16 September, 1883, and died 6
January, 1932. She married William A. "Bill" PARSONS, born 23 July, 1879,
and died in April, 1963. Buried in Lancaster Cemetery, Lancaster, Garrard
Co., Ky.
E2. Eliza TATEM, born 14 December, 1886, and died 20 March, 1970. She
married (1) William "Bill" BAKER and (2) William "Bill" KING. Buried
Lancaster Cemetery, Lancaster, Garrard Co., Ky.
E3. Myrtle M. TATEM, born 29 March, 1890, and died 24 October, 1952. She
married Henry Harrison COLDIRON, born 21 March, 1889, a son of William
COLDIRON and Emily MOORE. Henry died 25 May, 1954. They are buried in Rose Hill Memorial Park in Hamilton, Butler Co., Ohio. Their children were Earl V. COLDIRON, born 6 January, 1913, and died 23 July, 1964; and Thelma (COLDIRON) WILSON, born 1910, and died in 1968, the wife of Louis B. WILSON.
E4. John Harrison TATEM, born 10 July, 1893, and died 25 December, 1980.
He married Mary DAY, the daughter of Albert S. DAY and Lucretia "Christie" LEDFORD, on 10 July, 1918, in Richmond, Ky. Their son was Caryle Glenwood TATEM, born 14 November, 1919, in Garrard Co., Ky. Albert S. DAY was a son of William DAY and Susannah SKIDMORE.
From his Civil War pension papers, we know that William DAY was born 7
July, 1833, in Lee County, Virginia, and died 3 April, 1927, in Garrard County, Kentucky, near Paint Lick. He was married by Noble SMITH to Susannah SKIDMORE, the daughter of Ira SKIDMORE and Sarah "Sally" LEDFORD, on 21 December, 1854, in Harlan County, Kentucky. Susannah SKIDMORE was born 18 September, 1836, in Harlan County, Kentucky, and died 12 September, 1924, in Garrard County, Kentucky. William and Susannah are buried in the Manse Cemetery not far from Paint Lick, Garrard County, Kentucky. William and Susannah had:

b. Eliza Jane DAY, born 18 April, 1856, in Harlan County, Kentucky. She
married 19 March, 1872, in Harlan County, Kentucky, to Michael Lane NOE.
She died 29 June, 1944, near Paint Lick, Garrard County, Kentucky, and is
buried in the Manse Cemetery there. One of Michael's and Eliza Jane's daughters, Susie (NOE) WARD, is buried next to her.
c. Albert S. DAY (OUR LINE), born 9 May, 1859, in Harlan County,
Kentucky. He married to Lucretia "Cresha" LEDFORD (Some called her
Christie). Lucretia was a daughter of Stephen LEDFORD and Sarah "Sally"
RUSSELL. Cresha was born in Harlan County, Kentucky, on 3 June, 1859, and
died about 1914-1917 in Harlan County, Kentucky. She is buried at Crank's
Creek, Harlan County, Kentucky. Albert and Cresha had the following

ck. Mary DAY, born 8 September, 1895, in Jonesville, Lee County,
Virginia. Mary married to John Harrison TATEM on 10 July, 1918 in Richmond, Madison County, Kentucky. John was a son of John Wesley TATEM and Sallie Belle HURT, of Garrard County, Kentucky, near Lancaster and Paint Lick, and the grandson of Samuel TATUM and Amanda MOBERLY, of Silver Creek, Madison County, Kentucky. John Harrison TATEM was born 10 July, 1893, in Garrard County, Kentucky.
John Harrison and Mary (DAY) TATEM only had one son, Caryle Glenwood TATEM, born at Paint Lick, Garrard County, Kentucky, on 14 November, 1919. He was killed while serving with the U.S. Army in Yongpo, Korea, during the Korean Conflict on 13 August, 1950. He had married to Norma Rose DAVIS, a daughter of Benjamin Harrison DAVIS and Mary Magdalin DEAN, of Columbus, Bartholomew County, Indiana, on 15 September, 1943. Glenwood and Norma were my wife's parents. My wife is Mary Jill (TATEM) VOELZ. We were married 15 November, 1969, in Columbus, Indiana. We have two sons, Jon Christopher and Paul Joseph LAWSON, born 9 March, 1971, and 21 July, 1973, respectively, and a daughter Burnetta Marie "Bunny" MONTOYA born 10 July, 1969, in North Hollywood, California.
Mary (DAY) TATEM died 31 October, 1978, in Lexington, Fayette County,
Kentucky. John Harrison TATEM died 25 December, 1980, in Lexington,
Fayette County, Kentucky. They are buried side by side in the Lancaster (Garrard County), Kentucky Cemetery.
Cresha (LEDFORD) DAY died about 1914-1917 in Harlan County, near Crank's
Creek. This is about 3 miles from Cawood. She is buried there. Albert moved to Garrard County, Kentucky, to be near his daughters, Eliza Jane (DAY) NOE and Mary (DAY) TATEM. He died there on 24 April, 1919. He is buried at Manse Cemetery near Paint Lick.
d. Louisa DAY, born 8 December, 1878, in Harlan County, Kentucky. She
married to Ed F. HEDRICK in 1895 in Harlan County, Kentucky. They had a son that I'm aware of, Carlos HEDRICK.
Getting back to Stephen LEDFORD, the father of Cresha (LEDFORD) DAY. He was born in Harlan County, Kentucky, on 1 October, 1832. He died 16 January, 1892, at 59 years of age. He is buried at Crank's Creek, Harlan County, Kentucky. His wife was Sarah "Sally" RUSSELL. She is buried next to him. Stephen was the son of William Elias "Aley" LEDFORD and Elizabeth "Blind Granny" FARMER, of Harlan County, Kentucky. Aley LEDFORD was born, we believe, on 2 May, 1789, in Asheboro, Randolph County, North Carolina. Aley LEDFORD was the son of John LEDFORD. About 1808, Aley married to Elizabeth "Blind Granny" FARMER, the daughter of Stephen FARMER and Nancy RUSSELL. Elizabeth was born in On New River, Virginia, in 1791. She died in Crank's Creek, Harlan County, Kentucky, at age 101 years of age. She was buried there in Crank's Creek in 1892. Aley LEDFORD died 24 April, 1873, at 83 years of age. He is buried at Crank's Creek as well. Their children were:

AD. Sarah "Sally" LEDFORD born abt 1816 in Harlan County, Kentucky. She married to Ira SKIDMORE, the son of Johnny SKIDMORE and Mary NOE. Ira
SKIDMORE married to Sally LEDFORD in Harlan County, Kentucky, on 7 June,
1834. Ira SKIDMORE was born about 1816 in Lee County, Virginia. Ira
SKIDMORE was living as late as 1870 at Mt. Pleasant, in Harlan County, Kentucky, a farmer.
Ira SKIDMORE moved about 1831 to Harlan County, Kentucky, with his father
and spent the remainder of his days there. Ira SKIDMORE's children:
ADa. Susannah SKIDMORE was born 18 September, 1836, in Harlan County,
Kentucky, and died 12 September, 1924, in Garrard County, Kentucky. She
married to William DAY in Harlan County, Kentucky, on 21 December, 1854.
She and her husband are buried in the Manse Cemetery near Paint Lick, Garrard County, Kentucky.
ADb. Savannah SKIDMORE, born about 1838 in Harlan County, Kentucky. She married to John DAY on 1 May, 1859.
ADc. Eliza SKIDMORE, born about 1840 in Harlan County, Kentucky. She
married to Ira DAY on 22 July, 1860.
ADd. Martha SKIDMORE, born about 1842 in Harlan County, Kentucky. She
was living at home in 1860.
ADe. Carter SKIDMORE, born about 1843 in Harlan County, Kentucky. He
married to Louisa J. UNTHANK on 18 October, 1866. He served as a corporal
in Company F, 47th Regiment Of Kentucky Volunteer Mounted Infantry, Union
Army, in the Civil War. He applied for a pension in 1889. His widow also applied in 1900.
ADf. Malena SKIDMORE, born about 1848 in Harlan County, Kentucky. She
married to Solomon S. FORRESTER and died 1 March, 1930. She is buried at
Bethel Churchyard in Lee County, Virginia.
ADg. Rebecca SKIDMORE, born about 1850 in Harlan County, Kentucky. She
married to Green OSBORN.
ADh. Portman SKIDMORE, born about 1852 in Harlan County, Kentucky. He
married 1st to Jane DOCKERY on 1 July, 1872, and 2ndly to Caroline McQUIRE on 16 June, 1874, and 3rdly to (by 1880) Susan ELDRIDGE. They were living in 1900 on Lower Martin's Creek in Harlan County, Kentucky.
ADi. Elizabeth "Betty" SKIDMORE, born about 1854 in Harlan County,
Kentucky. She married to David LUNDY.

July, 1973. He married (1) Alice Mittie COLDIRON, born 10 December, 1894,
and died 22 March, 1936. Their children were: William Vernon "Bunk" TATEM
and Shirley TATEM. His second wife was Elsie SOWDERS. Clell and Elsie had a son, Terry TATEM.
E6. Grace TATEM, born 1 August, 1899, and died 30 January, 1985, at Mt.
Vernon, Ky. She married Ellis BELL.
F. Samuel J. TATUM, who died in Crab Orchard, Lincoln County, Kentucky.
Samuel TATUM died on 25 May, 1887 and is buried in the Gilead Church
Cemetery in Madison County, Kentucky. Amanda (MOBERLY) TATUM, Samuel
Harrison TATUM'S widow, moved to be near her son, Samuel J. TATUM, in Crab Orchard, Lincoln County, Kentucky, and died there in 1907. She is buried next to Samuel J. and his wife, Jennie, in the Crab Orchard Cemetery, on the hill...
