Sladius Peel, 72, died Friday afternoon at a Lexington hospital after a protracted illness. He was a native of Garrard county, son of the late James and Emily Burton Peel.

Pendleton, Virgil
Virgil Pendleton, 37 years old and unmarried, died at the Danville and Boyle county hospital Tuesday night (Nov. 11, 1925) from the effects of a gun shot wound, said to have been inflicted by Wilburn East on the Poor Ridge pike last Sunday afternoon. Sheriff Robinson and his deputies are still searching the county for East, who seems to have slipped the officers. Pendleton was shot in the left side, the ball entering the body about three inches below the heart and lodged near the spine. Dr. Virgil Kinnaird who took Pendleton to Danville, performed the operation early Monday morning in an effort to save Pendleton’s life.
According to Pendleton he was riding his horse down the road toward the home of a neighbor whom he wanted to take a truck load of hogs to Danville, when he met East, who was on foot. East asked Pendleton where he was going and the latter replied, “None of your business,” he said. East then said, “I‘ll show you if its none of my business,” and, according to Pendleton, drew a pistol and fired. Pendleton said East would have fired again, had he not begged him not to shoot. Pendleton stayed on his horse until he reached the home of Harrison Ray, from which place he was brought ot Lancaster by Dr. Virgil Kinnard. Pendleton is survived by several brothers, all of this county and one sister who resides in Louisville. Funeral arrangements had not been made when we went to press.

Perrin, S.D.
Mr. S.D. Perrin died of tuberculosis at the home of his father-in-law, Mr. Jerry Bland, on Dix River, Tuesday morning and was buried in the Lancaster Cemetery Wednesday.
Deceased was a highly honorable and respected citizen and had many friends who deeply regret his death. He leaves a wife and one brother, Joe Perrin, of Anderson, Ind., who have the sympathy of the community.

Petty, Joseph M.
Died in this place on Sunday, Mr. Joseph M. Petty, in his 58th year, after a lingering illness of consumption. Mr. Petty was at the time of his death coroner and had been for a number of years. He was always a resident of this county and had the highest esteem of the entire community. He was long a faithful member of the Christian Church and died as he had lived, a quiet, unpretentious life. He leaves to his sorrowing wife and children the blessed consolation that their loss will be his eternal gain and assures them it is not all of “life to live or all of death to die.” His funeral was preached Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Christian Church by Elder George Gowen and the remains interred in the Lancaster Cemetery. Much sympathy is felt for Mrs. Petty and children in this their dark hour of bereavement.

Pieratt, Mary R. Doty
Mrs. Thomas S. Pieratt, 35, of Garrard County, Ky., daughter of Mrs. John Doty of Irvine Road, died at a hospital in Louisville Thursday (March 10, 1927) after an operation. She is survived by her husband and a daughter, Elizabeth Gordon Pieratt, her mother; a sister, Miss Margaret Doty; five brothers, John, Eagle, and Oldham Doty of Richmond, William Doty of the United States Naval Academy, and Kie Doty of New York. Funeral services will be held at the grave in the Richmond Cemetery.

Plummer, Tom
Mr. Tom Plummer was laid to rest in the Manse Cemetery on last Thursday afternoon. He had been ill only a few days of influenza and pneumonia followed. He leaves to mourn his loss a devoted wife and eight small children, an aged mother, and four brothers, one of them in the service.

Poindexter, Edward
Private services for Edward Poindexter, 74, of The Veterans’ Center, Wilmore, will be Monday at Camp Nelson National Cemetery by the Rev. David Hunter. He died Thursday at his residence. Born May 3, 1924, in Garrard County, he was a son of the late Edward Hale “Pete” and Nell Taylor Poindexter. He was a retired mechanic and fighter pilot in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He attended Texas Technical University and the University of Kentucky. Survivors include two sisters, Frances Leonard of Harrodsburg and Betty Poindexter of St. Petersburg, Fla. Visitation is 9:30-10:30 a.m. Monday at Stith Funeral Home.

Pollard, Ida
Miss Ida Pollard died at the home of a relative in Indianapolis, Ind, on the 16th of cardiac arithma and her remains were brought to Lancaster for interment and were laid to rest beside her mother and father on last Saturday. The deceased was born and raised in Lancaster, the oldest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Pollard, the latter it will be remembered lost his life while a member of the Lancaster police during the anti blind tiger uprising a few years ago at the hands of William Humber, who was sentenced to a term in the penetentiary for his deed, and was afterward pardoned.
Miss Ida Pollard was a bright and promising young girl, at the time of her father’s death she was one of the brightest students of the local High school; her mother’s death from tuberculosis quickly followed the demise of her father, and upon Miss Ida devoted the care of the family of little children, a trust which she faithfully tried to execute. Another sister died shortly afterward of the same dread disease, and the family then became disrupted, Miss Ida taking the two younger children and going to Indianapolis. She has many relatives in Garrard county and a host of friends in Lancaster who mourn the ending of a commendable struggle against adverse circunstances.

Pond, John
Rev. John Pond died at his home in Perryville, the 18th. He is the father of Mrs. Alex Ely, at this place.

Prather, Mary Burton
Mrs. Mary Burton Prather, wife of Mr. James P.Prather, died at the family residence on Stanford street in this city at 12:30 o‘clock Sunday morning. Mrs. Prather had been in declining health for more that a year, and while she had not been constantly confined to her bed, she was known to be in a very serious condition, and her death while a severe shock to the family, was not wholly unexpected.
Mrs. Prather was in her sixty-seventh year; she was born in Madison county, Ky., the daughter of Abraham and Martha Jane Reynolds Burton. She was married in 1865 to Robert Burton Sanders and to that union was born seven children, six of whom survie her as follows: Messrs Clayton and Henderson Sanders of Ohio and Walter Sanders of Madison county, Ky., and Mrs. Richard Burgress of Ohio, Mrs. Elvada Tudor and Mrs. Willie Sebastian of Madison county, Ky. After the death of her first husband which occurred in 1881 she remained a widow for four years marrying Mr. Prather in 1885, and they have five children, Mrs. Oscar Hendren of Madison county, Mrs. Roy Williams of Illinois and Misses Bessie and Eunice Prather of Lancaster and Jessie Prather of Illinois; Mr. Jefferson Davis Prather , Mrs. Meade Teater and Mrs. M. Carter of this county are step-children of Mrs. Prather.
Mrs. Prather was a faithful member of the Christian church, taking membership in her girlhood days at the old Salem church in Madison county.
The funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o‘clock at the grave the services being conducted by Rev. F. M. Tinder assisted by Rev. S. H. Pollitt, after which the remains were interred in the Lancaster cemetery.
