William Dudley and with the said Darnell whilst, acting in the capacity of a private soldier in his country's service in the action with the British and Indians opposite to Fort Meigs on the 5th of May did then and there receive a gun shot wound in his right shoulder which has rendered his right arm forever wholly useless - He was taken prisoner and payrolled at the mouth of Huron River on Lake Erie the 10th of May 1813. Signed J.S. Shelby, late Major 13th regiment, D.K.M.

Fayette Co, Kentucky. Personally came before me as commissioner, James Shelby, who declares according to law, that the facts set forth in the above certificate relative to Spencer Darnell is true.
This April 14-1814 signed James Morrison

Affidavit of Dr. Richard Pindell
[illegible line] .... his wounds of a musket ball, which had passed through the shoulder rendering him totally disabled of supporting himself by hard labor.

This certificate that Spencer Darnell, a soldier belonging to the Kentucky Militia under the command of Brigadier General Clay was wounded at the siege of Fort Meigs and taken prisoner by the British or Indians and from thence brought to this place. He has been confined at this place in consequence of the wound which he then received from that or until the present from the nature and extent of the wound, I do not hesitate to give it as my opinion that an anchylosys? or loss of massias? of the shoulder will be the effect.
Signed 2-14-1814. David Long, surgeon.
