PREFACE

Source: Williams' Lexington [Kentucky] Directory, City Guide, and Business Mirror, Volume I - 1859-60, Compiled by C.S. Williams, Lexington [Kentucky]: Hitchcock &  Searles, 1859.

In presenting the citizens of Lexington with the first volume of "William's Lexington directory, City Guide and Business Mirror," the compiler would express his thanks for the liberal manner in which they have sustained the undertaking.
Those unacquainted with Directory publishing, have but a faint idea of the difficulties and obstacles to be encountered in obtaining and properly arranging the necessary information; we, from a long experience, are perfectly familiar with them in detail and, while asking indulgence for a few errors which must necessarily have crept into the work, we claim that no city of like size in the united states has a better Directory than Lexington.
Out intention is to continue the publication of the Lexington Directory -  for the present biennially. The improvements in each issue shall keep pace with the subscription list.
