Mrs. Jessie V. Lakes, 97, of Willow Knoll
Retirement Community, passed away Wednesday, February 20, 2002, at
Middletown Regional Hospital.
She was born in Estill County, Ky., on March 8, 1904, to Abijah and
Abner Lyttle. She lived in Middletown area for 19 years and prior to
that had resided in Florida for 15 years.
Mrs. Lakes was a homemaker. She was a member of the Stratford
Heights Church of God, sang in the Jubilee Choir and had taught
Sunday school in Hamilton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer B. Lakes on March 8,
1987; her parents; a son Earl Glendon Lakes in 1997; a daughter,
Doris E. Bridgeford in 1973; and five brothers, one sister and three
half-sisters.
She leaves a son Chester B. (Joann) Lakes of Palmetto, Fla.; two
daughters, Wilma (Bill) Kershner of Upland, Calif., and Anne Turner
of Middletown; a daughter-in-law, Irma J. Lakes of Leesburg, Fla.;
12 grandchildren, Jennifer. A. Davis of Hamilton, Larry Lakes of
Elkhart, Ind., Mike and Scott Kershner of California, Deborah Laird
of California, Stephanie Harrison and Cynthia Turner of Middletown,
Ohio, Steve Lakes of Kansas City, Mo., Brian Lakes of Biloxi, Miss.,
Cheryl Miller and Luann Willis of Florida and Vickie Franklin of
California; 26 great-grandchildren; and 9 great-great
grand-children.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23,
at Baker-Stevens Funeral Home, with the Rev. Susan Jones-Thompson
officiating. Interment will be at Butler County Memorial Park.
Visitation is Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service.
MEMORIALS: Donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
