Dorothy
Farmer Benton, 85, Hartland Hills Retirement Community, formerly of Louisville,
and wife of Thomas “Tommy” B. Benton, died Friday, July 18, 2003. Born in Estill
County, KY, she was a daughter of the late W.T. and Ibba Rose Farmer, SR. A
devoted member of the Shively Christian Church, Louisville, she was also a
member of the Beechmont Women’s Club, taught craft’s to Senior Citizen’s for
many years, enjoyed gardening, and was faithful to her family, friends and home.
During WW II, she served as a payroll officer at the Bluegrass Army Depot in
Avon. In addition to her husband of sixty-one years, she is survived by two
daughters, Susan (James) Ishmael and Kathy (Gary) Ammerman, both of Lexington; a
sister, Katherine Johnson, Cynthiana; six grandchildren, Matthew and Benjamin
Ishmael, Jessica London, Anna Shae Ammerman, Angelee Soldwisch, and Trisha
Lewallen; three great grandchildren, Brynne Hubbard, Tyler Soldwisch, and Clint
Lewallen. Services will be 1:30 PM Tuesday at W.R. Milward Mortuary-Southland
conducted by Rev. Brewster McLeod. Burial will follow at the Sunset Memorial
Gardens, Estill County. Casket bearers will be Jim Ishmael, Gary Ammerman, Matt
Ishmael, Ben Ishmael, Tim Farmer, John Benton, David Myers, and Ron London.
Honorary bearers will be Bob Weaver, Chris Lewis and Bo Lewis. Visitation will
be 11 AM till service time on Tuesday. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the
