VCM Note: Lillian Collins born 4-3-1915 Estill Co., Ky to Carrie Thomas Vol 181 Cert 90106 filed 1955 as per KBI June 20, 2004 Journal News, Hamilton, Ohio Lillian C. Bell HAMILTON — Lillian C. Bell was an active woman who enjoyed sewing, cooking and making her own bread and pies, said her daughter, Christine Gatzke. “She liked to sew and she made clothes for herself and for us,” Gatzke said. “She would make quilts and give them out to the family members. It’s something I will cherish forever ... it’s something she made for me that I can reach out and touch.” Bell died Thursday, June 17, at Berkeley Square. She was 89. She was born in Wagersville, [Estill County], Ky., in 1915. As a young girl she moved to Somerville. After high school she attended Miami University and worked for the Scripps Foundation in Oxford. She married E. Barton Bell, also from Somerville, in 1936. The couple raised their three children in Centerville. Their retirement years were spent on a farm above Somerville. “Everybody loved her pie,” Gatzke said. “When she lived on a farm, she loved her garden, where she grew lots of her own fruits and vegetables. She loved to go out and pick the corn and cook it and eat it right away. She said that is how it tastes the best. “After my mother and father moved off the farm, and moved to Berkeley Square, she cared for my father who had Alzheimer’s. It was a difficult time for her,” she said. Bell is survived by her daughters, Evelyn (Dick) Streng and Christine (James) Gatzke; and her son, Edward (Ann) Bell; two grandsons, Scott (Sara) Streng and Todd Streng; and many other relatives. “We miss her and we always will,” Gatzke said. “There is a void.” Funeral services are 10 a.m. Monday at the Weigel Funeral Home, 980 NW Washington Blvd., Hamilton. Visitation is 9 to 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. June 20, 2004 Journal News, Hamilton, Ohio Lillian C. Bell Lillian C.
