Nelson Alexander

IRVINE - Nelson Alexander, 79, Forest Hill Dr., husband of Jean Howell Alexander, died Mon., Mar. 15, 2004, at Pattie A. Clay Hospital, Richmond, after an illness. Mr. Alexander was born May 5, 1924, in Estill County, a son of the late Tipton E. and Eva Lou Wise Alexander. he was a charter member of Mt. Carmel Christian Church, a US Army Veteran of WWII and a retired merchant and farmer. He had been a veteran's agriculture teacher. He was the first of three of Estill countians to be selected American Farms by the FFA. He was the first charter member of the Estill County Fair Board and charter member of the board of directors of Estill Federal Savings & Loan Association. Survivors in addition to his wife of 55 years, Jean Howell Alexander, include two daughters, Sharon (Dave) Wilson, Carlisle, and Vicki (Wayne) Harris, Lexington; sister, Mary Clay Alexander Abney, Irvine; sister-in-law, Patricia Alexander, Richmond; four grandchildren, Lauren (Charles) Clark, Sarah Auxier, Alex Wilson and Lydia (Dale) Kohler; one great granddaughter, Ashley Marie Clark. His sister, Golden Alexander Woosley and brother, William A. "Bill" Alexander, preceded him in death. Services will be conducted at 1 pm Thurs. at Mt. Carmel Christian Church with Brothers Butch Arvin, Kenny Dotson and David Alexander officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at Lewis Funeral Home any time after 5 pm Wed. Contributions are suggested to the T.E. Alexander Memorial Scholarship Fund c/o Estill County Board of Education, PO Box 930, Irvine, KY, 40336. Pall bearers, Rick Richardson, Stephen Howell, Kenny Woosley, Joseph Abney, David Alexander, Donald Richardson, and Josh Harris. Honorary bearers, Caleb Click, Joseph Abney, Chase Alexander, Tyler Howell, Cobbe Click, Lance Oliver, R.J. Holston, Austin Smith, Eugene Bush, Tom Williams, H.T. Hardy Jr., and James A. Hall. The family would like to acknowledge special caregivers, Margaret Spencer, Linda White and Connie Hodde.
