The descendants of Wildy McKinney meet at theJackson's Chapel United Methodist Church located onHighway 89 in Estill County on the last Saturday ofJuly every year at noon for a potluck dinner andreunion during the afternoon. The reunion features afamily history presentation, a hymn sing, and abusiness meeting. This McKinney Reunion has been anannual event for the past 83 years (as of 2007). Since the 1930's it has been held at this location andprior to that it was held at Hardwick's CreekMethodist church and for a couple of years at EstillSprings. These reunions are documented through theClay City Times which was started, owned, and editedby a descendent of James Franklin McKinney and herhusband, Johnny Burgher. McKinney reunions whichoccurred more than 83 years ago are mentioned inarticles recounting reunions which were held in the1920's.

In recent years the reunion has attended bydescendants of Wilde McKinney through four of hischildren: Joel (through two of his sons: JamesFranklin and John William), Miriam, Thomas Shelton,and Polly Jane. The oldest living members of thisgroup are in their late eighties and early ninetiesrepresenting generations five and six from WildyMcKinney. The current historian for the group hasbegun a database of McKinney Genealogy, and the intentis to add to this database at every reunion. Thedatabase includes vital statistics, legal documents,newspaper articles, and photographs. All descendantsand friends of the greater McKinney family arewelcome.
