James & Chesney IngramSubmitted by Maggie Edwards
James Ingram was born 26 Mar 1849 in Estill Co. and died 16 Jan 1925 in Estill Co. He's buried in the Cane Springs Cemetery. He married Mary Jane Chesney Young. In my correspondence with Wanda Ingram Norman, she states "I lived up the road from the Old Ingram farm on Buck Creek. The log cabin, built by my great-grandfather, James Marion Ingram, was still standing in 1989. It was made of two large rooms separated by an alcove. One room was for sleeping and the old with a fireplace was for living and cooking. I have been told the milk cow was brought into the alcove during bad weather. In the creek, natural gas bubbled up. Behind the log cabin is a mountain. The Macedonia Church, school, and cemetery are located on top of this mountain. Chesney Young may have been the first person buried there. Marion's body was brought out from South Irvine for burial in a horse drawn wagon to Buck Creek. There, it was transferred to a sled to be taken to the cemetery." James purchased 50 acres in 1879. He paid a grandfather clock, a hog, rifle and $50. He bought the land from Simpson and Julia Horn. Known children of James and Mary were: Frances Marion was born about 1872. Houston Ingram was born 06 Mar 1875 and died 26 Aug 1961
