George W. L. Nesbit
Crittenden Press July 23, 1926 - G. W. L. Nesbit, one of the oldest citizens of this county, died
Wednesday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. T. A. Rankin.
Mr. Nesbit had been ill for many months and had been unconscious a great part of the time for the last few weeks.
Mr. Nesbit was in his eighty third year and was a veteran of the War Between the States. He was the last surviving
member of his company of the Union Army, all of his comrades that went with him throughout the duration of the Civil
War are dead, most of them for several years. Surviving Mr. Nesbit are two daughters, Mrs. T. A. Rankin of Marion
(,Ky.) and Mrs. Mary Klingenmaier of Evansville, (In.) and one son Virgil Nesbit of Marion.

It is hereby certified, that it appears from the Records of this Office, that George W. L. Nesbit enlisted on the 14th day of September
1861 at Crittenden Co., Ky. and was mustered into the service of the United States as a Sergeant in Company E., 48 Regiment, Illinois Vol.
Infantry for the period of three years on the 14th day of September 1861. Age: 19 years; Height: 6 feet, 2 inches; Hair:
Light; Eyes: Blue; Complexion: Fair; Laborer. Native of Switzerland Co., In.diana. Reenlisted as Veteran Volunteer. January 1, 1864.
Promoted Sergeant and 1st Lieutenant. Mustered out, August 15, 1865.
