Son of Abel/Nancy (Robertson) Bishop

a. Enlistment into Co. D, 47th Ky, Aug. 11, 1863.
b. Aff: Brother David: John was free of disease when entering service. On about Sept. 10 1863 he contacted measles at Irvine, Ky.
c. Aff: Bro. David. Nov. 22, 1885. To reply to question about my means of knowing of John's afflictions while in
service: it is from personal knowledge and waiting on him during his sickness. He first take on measels at Irvine Ky.
and before he got well the regiment marched to Camp Nelson Ky through a wet sloppy time and he takon relapse causing him to spit up
blood. The regiment went to Manchester, Ky and while encamped there he contacted pnuemonia fever on Mar 10, 1864 and he continues
to coff. Dr. Daniel treated him in the hospital at Irvine. At Manchester, he was treated by Dr Stephen Bates in a
shanty and then he was furloughed home. He returned to the command May 6, 1864. I have lived as a near neighbor. 3/4 ths disabled.

d. Aff: Nancy Bishop (Mother) (1890?): On mar. 10, 1864 his father brought him home from Manchestersick with relapse of measles. It
takon 3 days to get him the distance of 20 miles. He stayed home 2 or 3 months and Dr Stephen Bates left medison for us to give John.
He returned to the service and I lost sight of him for 8 mo. when he returned still in bad health. He lived in the house with me 4 or 5 years
and during and since he has been unable to work but 1/4 of the
time.

e. Aff: Able Bishop (Father): Age 72. Known John since 1847. First saw subject after discharge at my house in Clay Co. Out of my
5 boys that I have raised, John was the heathiest, stoutest boy and was at enlistment. Of the 5 he was never diseased. On Mar. 10, 1864 I and his
mother brought him from Manchester on furlough..him being sick, it took 3 days to bring him home a distance of 20 miles. We waited on him
for 2-3 months. Abel follows Nancys statement from here. I have never lived more than 1/2 mile away.

g. Aff: David G. Cole: DGC age 41 resident of Conkling.
h. Certificate of Marriage: Married Catherine Cole; Clay Co. Mar. 6, 1869 at the home of Rachel Allen. Present were Jobe Allen. Service by Preston Carpenter of the United Baptists.
i. Children in 1890: Maryann b 1879, David in 1885. (Robert not listed)
j. Death: Oct 12, 1911. Robert G. Bishop (Son) undertaker age 40. John left no money. Burial permit , age 65 permit # 6. County Owsley. Place of burial Bishop Graveyard , Old Family Graveyard, Sexton Mary Bishop.
l. Aff: Wife Catherine: She lived with her mother Elizabeth Cole and brothers David Cole and Robert Cole & sister Alie Cole &
Nancy Cole & Martha Jane Cole, near Manchester from 1850 to 1860. Father, Charles lived with them until July 1858 when he was
killed.

Catherine was born Mar 12, 1845 at Laurel Creek.&
m. Another Description: Height 6", Fair Complexion, light hair, and Black eyes.
n. Affs: Joseph Allen: 39 in 1889 I was in the same hospital at Irvine & same bed. Address Narrows. Job Allen 38 in 1889 Narrows. Samuel Combs 53 years old; same regiment, lived 1 mile apart since the war. Patrick Napier: 69, Known him since 1850, Merchant. Robert R. Howard: 52 Lived 2 miles apart since 1865. JB is a farmer & a good moral sittisen. Worked for me.
o. From the Claim of William B. Bishop, John states: Apr. 22, 1896 at Gabbard, Owsley Co. I am 50 years old, a farmer. I am a third cousin of William B. Bishop and have known him since I was a boy. He worked for my father a great deal and I worked with him before the war.
