{This was probably pivotal for William Luther Price. He, and brother, Rob,  followed                                                 them to California 3 years later in the company of Uncle William Garrard’s wife and 3                                      children. 1853 April                 MO St. Louis. Joined the Duckwall-Trahern Wagon Train bringing  500 cattle, maybe the                 first, to Sonora  CA. Also thought to have brought mules. It was part of a larger gathering                                    of travelers known at the Cherokee Train. Included 120 wagons and 2000 cattle.

1853 September                CA Tuolumne Co. Relief Meadows. The Duckwall-Trahern group reached this area                                 following the Walker River Trail from Nevada. This stop, a short distance from Sonora,                                  was reached after one of the most difficult and treacherous wagon trail travels over the                                    rugged Sierra. It is the only route that was never later used for roads railroad, pipelines,                                               trails or even telegraph/telephone wires. Fifty of William Price’s 300 head of cattle and                                         half of the rest of the cattle perished on this trip but all of the travelers survived. Wash                                    Trahern brought in 750 thought to be from the original 2000. This was a remarkable trip                                      for its many challenges. Bill Price’s aunt, Mary Woodson Garrard, and her three young                                          children of Kentucky were on this trek to join their husband/father, William Mountjoy                                              Garrard.

1906                        CA Tuol. Co. Jamestown,  Son, Gabe purchased Lord Ranch and cattle business. He gave                                 1/4 interest to brother, Lee who also was to supervise it. It was 7800 acres and included                                         780 head of cattle and 40 horses.  In 2006 the ranch is owned by Price descendent, Patty                                                 Price Mailloux Brooks and her husband, Leonard. The rights to the original Price Brand                                     has been retained [recorded by Patty's grandfather, William Luther Price 11 Aug 1863.

{Speculation that the mine Gabe claimed for Lee didn't pan out and so this may have                                       been in lieu of that property. Gabe also, at this time didn't want to oversee the ranch.                                     Eventually he owned  one of the largest cattle raising ranches in the area.  The cattle                                    ranged from valley and foothill land in Tuolumne and Stanislaus Cos. to high meadows                                      of the Sierra. One main camp, called Lee Price Camp was southeast of Longbarn, CA."

Eventually, but date unknown, the brothers had a rift and split the ranch exactly in half,                                        "down to the exact number of chickens."
