1810 (May 10th 1810)
In the name of God amen I William Gilkey of Caldwell County and state of
Kentucky being sick and weak in body but of sound mind and perfect sense
and disposeal of mind and memory thanks be to God given to the almighty
God for the same do this 21st day of May in the year of our lord God One
thousand eight hundred and ten, make and ordain this to be my last will
and testament in manner and form following
Item I give and commend my soul to into the hands of almighty
God that gave it to me and my body to mother Earth to be buried in a
christian like manner at the discretion of my executors hereafter named
hoping that at the morning of resurection I shall have a glorious
meeting with the saints in glory , .and as to my wordly estate
which to hath pleased God to bless me with I dispose of in manner and
form following namely viz
Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Hannah Gilkey one feather
bed and furniture two cows and one horse creature to the value of fifty
dollars to her and her heirs forever .
Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Barbary Gilkey one
feather bed and furniture one yearling mare colt now claimed by her And
two cows to her and her heirs forever.
Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Jemima Gilkey one feather
bed and furniture two cows and one horse creature to the value of fifty
dollars to her and her heirs forever
Item I give and bequeath unto my son in law Charles Trim one .
feather bed and furniture two cows and one horse to the value of fifty
dollars and the said property the said Charles Trim had from me when he
was married to my daughter Anna, and the said Charles Trim and his wife
Anna at the writing of this instrument acknowledges themselves to be
satisfied with it as their part of my estate I give to Charles and his
heirs forever.
Item I give and bequeath unto my son William Gilkey one black
horse it being the horse that he now has of mine in his possession and
also ten dollars to him and his heirs forever.
Item My will and desire that all my children except William and
daughter Anna shall live on the plantation where I now live in order to
support thereon until they arrive at the age of maturity or marry And
that they shall equally have the benefit of the land and plantation and
the stock and utensils hereon until the time above mentioned.
. Item I bequeath unto my son Thomas one hundred acres of land
it being the plantation and part of the land whereon I now live, and one
horse to him & his heirs forever.
Item I give and bequeath unto my son John Gilkey the balance of
the land I now own lying above me on the dry fork of the Eddy Creek and
one horse to him and his heirs forever.
Item I give and bequeath unto my son Isaac Gilkey one feather
bed and furniture and one horse to be at the value of seventy dollars to
be paid to him out of my estate when he arrives at the age of twenty one
or marries to him and his heirs forever
Item I give and bequeath unto my grand Son Zepheniah Gilkey one
horse to the value of fifty dollars to be paid to him out of my estate
when he arrives to the age of twenty one years to him and his heirs
forever
Item My will and desire is that my smith tools, one large bull
a steer and one cow be sold in order to clear the land which I give to
my sons Thomas and John Gilkey of the money due this state thereon and
to pay my just debts
. Item I enstitute and appoint my trusty friend James Greer
my whole and sole executor to this my last will and Testament. . In
Testimony Whereof I the said William Gilkey hath hereunto set my hand
and affixed my seal this day and date first written and in the thirty
fourth year of our American Independence. Sign Seal pronounce and

(codicil May 21 1810) Item I further constitute and appoint my
trusty friend Hugh McElroy likewise my executor to this my last will and

I John Phelps clerk of said court do certify that the within Last Will
and Testament of William Gilkey deceased was this day produced in open
court by the executors there in named and proven by the oaths of James
Greer and James Greer junior two subcribing witnesses thereto and the
same was ordered to be recorded, in testimony that I have recorded this
7th day of Aug 1810.
