Mercer Letters

The Mercer letters are a series of letters between a father, William Mercer, of Princeton, Ky., and a son, John Edwin Mercer, who was serving in the Mexican War and stationed near Vera Cruz Mexico. JEM served in Captain Joseph S. Conn's Company G, Fourth regiment of Kentucky foot volunteers. As you read the letters, you will see, some things never change, like the love and concern we as parents have for our children. John Edwin returned home safely from the war and in 1875 moved his family to Wise Co., Texas, where he died in 1903 at the age of 75. The Thomas Corbett letter is from Thomas to his niece, Annie Mercer, a daughter of John Edwin Mercer. This was written to her after the Mercers left Ky. and moved to Texas. Altho I have kept the spelling as it is in the letters, I have added some punctuation marks to make it easier to read. Martha C. Clark
