A family record of the John Mercer family who came from South Carolina in the mid 1790's and settled in Caldwell Co., Ky., on the Dry Fork of Eddy Creek.
This book, which is nothing more than a notebook, chronicles births, marriages, and deaths of his children and grandchildren.
My husband, Jerry Clark, descended from John and Lucretia (Johnston) Mercer, their son William (m. Susan Wheeler) Mercer and William's only child, John Edwin Mercer (m. Elizabeth Coil).
John Edwin Mercer, along with his wife and eight children, left Kentucky in 1874/75 and traveled by covered wagon to settle in Wise Co., Texas. Among their treasured possessions was this book, that we now call "The Record of Ages". It came to us when my husbands grandmother, Florence Mercer Clark, died.
I have researched John and Lucretia for twenty years and tho I have lots of data on them, I have never found a record of their marriage, birthplace or parents. Lucretia's mother was Hannah (no maiden name) Johnston who died in Greenville Co., S. Caro. in 1813. The Johnstons listed on pages 4 and 5 of the Record of Ages are Lucretia's siblings.
If anyone else is researching this family I would love to share data.
