"John McLaughlin was born in 1753-1754 in VA, enlisted in the 5th VA line at
Liberty City (Bedford), Bedford Co, VA in February 1775 or 1776 (he
listed both dates in his pension application), fought in the Chesapeak
(sic) area and in the battle of Guilford Court House, lived near or in
Eddyville, Caldwell Co, KY (Eddyville is now in Lyon Co, KY, as Lyon Co
was formed from Caldwell Co land), moved to Lafayette Co, MO in 1827
with his wife and son, John McGlothlin, Jr. and died there on 17 July
1828.

gggg grandfather John's wife's given name was Sarah - don't yet know her
last name and they had children: John McGlothlin, Jr; Susannah
McLaughlin who married John Keeny; Elizabeth McLaughlin who married
Isaac Lewis: Charles M. McGlothlen who married Jane M. Davis; Margaret
McLaughlin who married William Lewis; Rebecca McLaughlin who married
William Davis; and Mary Hannah "Polly" McGlothlen who married Rev.
Jonathan A. Keeney.

I believe John and Sarah lived in Greenbrier Co, VA (WV) until about
1795, then moved to the Jefferson / Cocke Co, TN area until about 1810
where several of their children were married, then moved to Caldwell Co,
KY until 1827 when they and John Jr. moved to Lafayette Co, MO. After
John Sr. died, widow Sarah bought 82 acres of land in adjacent Ray Co,
which she sold in 1834. I believe she died shortly thereafter."
