Eddie Gering, state worker
Retired OBES employee was very active in community
Eddie A. Gering, 73, a retired state employment worker, died Wednesday at Hospice of Cincinnati. She was a Green Township resident.
Mrs. Gering worked 30 years for the Ohio Bureau of Employment Services in both claims and employment departments. She began as a clerk and advanced to employment services representative, a post she held at her retirement in 1978.
In 1968 she was elected to a third consecutive term as president of the Unemployment Compensation Credit Union. She was a past president of the International Association of Personnel in Employment Security; a member of the Advisory Board of Scarlet Oaks Vocational Schools, past secretary of the Green Township Civic League, secretary of the Bridgetown Civic Association, member of Cancer Share and honorary member of the Green Township Park Committee.
Last month she donated $1000 to the Bridgetown Civic Association for improvement of newly acquired land on West Fork Road.
"She was vivacious," said a niece, Beatrice Annis Ihle, Green Township, who was raised by Mrs. Gering. "She took hold of life and just got every bit out of it. She was a very concerned citizen and really got involved in everything. She often said seniors got beautiful buildings to meet at, but teen-agers needed some place too."
Mrs. Gering's husband, Anthony A., died in 1962. In addition to Beatrice Ihle, she is survived by 17 other nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 5-8pm today, followed by a service, at Peter Rebold & Son Funeral Home, 3700 Glenmore Ave., Cheviot. Service also will be 2 p.m. EST Saturday at Smith Funeral Home, Morgantown, Ky. Burial, Riverview Cemetery, Morgantown. Memorials, to Green Township Park Committee.
