PHILLIPS, JAMES

Mr. James Phillips, 86, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. L. C. Walters on the Junction City Pike at 11:30 O’clock Monday morning. He was born December 26, 1834 in Boyle county, where he spent his youth, Most if his life was spent in Boyle. Two years ago he went to Danville, Ill. to be with his daughter, Mrs. Frank Lanham. He returned only a short time ago and after an illness of one week he passed away. He died of heart disease.

At the age of 19 he joined the Cumberland Presbyterian Church At the age of 20 he married Miss Lucinda McGinnis. He is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Jennie Charles and Mrs. Sallie Lanham both of Danville, Ill.; Mrs. Lula Edwards, Mrs. Odie Harris and Mrs. Mary Walters all of Parksville, and five sons Messers, Will, Frank, Finley, Bob, all of this county, and Joe who is stationed in Virginia with the Navy. One son Mr. Pete Phillips died several years ago.

He had 11 children, 84 grandchildren, 88 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren. He was a good, straight, honest man and was loved by all who met him. He was always cheerful and willing to share with others. Especially was he loved by the children he met. Many are his friends, among the youth of Parksville and vicinity, who are grieved to hear of his death. He will be buried in the cemetery at McDowell Church Wednesday morning at 10:30 o'clock. Bro. McDowell will have charge of the services. The sympathy of all go out to the family in their bereavement.
