Former School Board Member, W. T. Cox, Dies

CATLETTSBURG: William Thirison Cox, 69, 1138 Center St., died at at 11:50 p.m. Thursday following an extended illness.
He retired as a salesman for the Midland Grocery Co. of Portsmouth in 1960. Mr Cox was born in Anderson County, Ky., Feb. 21, 1895, a son of the late James T. and Lulie Cole Cox. He resided in Catlettsburg for the past 40 years and was a member of the First Christian Church of Ashland. He was a past member of the church board, and a two time exalted ruler of Catlettsburg Lodge 942 Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.
Mr. Cox served 12 years as a member of the Catlettsburg School board; was acharter member of the Catlettsburg Lions Club; charter member of the Catlettsburg Chamber of Commerce; chairman of the floodwall drive, and a member of the floodwall commission; past secretary-treasure of Gunnell Realty Co.;member of Hampton Lodge 235 F&AM; past president of the Catlettsburg Community Chest, and member of the board of directors of Ramey Children`s Home
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Hazel Seitz Cox, and one sister, Mrs. W.C. Royalty of Lawrenceburg, Ky.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Kilgore-Collier Funeral Home by the Rev. Dr. Joseph S. Faulconer, assisted by the Rev. Arthur Beam. Burial will be in the Ashland Cemetery.
