CATLETTSBURG: Mrs. Nancy Caroline Blankenship, for the past eighty-two years a resident of Ashland and Catlettsburg and whose 127 living descendants include 7 children, 36 grandchildren, 63 great grandchildren, and 21 great-great-grandchildren, answered the summons of death at noon Saturday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Tom Maynard of 3515 Railroad St., Catlettsburg, with whom she had been residing for the past several years. Mrs. Blankenship was widely known and greatly beloved by a wide circle of friends both here and in Ashland. Her death followed an illness of several months. She was born March 22, 1855 in Johnson County., the daughter of Jesse and Martha Hager Fortune. At the age of 5 she came to Boyd County with her parents and had lived here and in Ashland continuously since that time. She was the widow of the late Joseph Blankenship. During her residency in Catlettsburg in the past few years she had attended the Missionary Baptist Church of this city and was a member of the Martha Crawford Sunday school class of that church. Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Marion McPeek of Ashland, Mrs. A. J. May of Columbus O., Mrs. G. W. Fisher of Cleveland, O., Mrs. Floyd Morrison of Bancroft, Mich., and Mrs. Tom Maynard of Cattlettsburg, two sons, Joe Blankenship of Detroit, Mich., and Tom Blankenship of Chicago, ILL., 36 grandchildren, 63 great-grandchildren, and 21 great-great-grandchildren. The body was removed to the Kilgore-Collier funeral home on Panola street, Catlettsburg. Funeral arrangements have not been completed Saturday night but will be announced in Monday's Independent. The body will remain at the funeral home until the hour of service.
