Ashland- Mr John Goad of Hunnewell was here to renew his subscription. The remains of John Lady, who died at Stuebenville, Ohio last summer arrived in this city for the interrmant on Friday last. (Note John C. Lady died Feb 14, 1883, age 20 son of Daniel H (1830-1889) and Anna McManaway Lady (1830-1881). The family is buried in Ashland Cemetery.

Boyd Co ( Catlettsburg)- John Meeks of this city left Sunday for a business trip to Higginsport, Ohio. (Crossroads)- Mrs Van Lewis is on the sick list.

Carter Co. Grayson- Our circuit court clerk, E. P. Davis, died. He has been clerk for 34 years. Leaves a wife and 4 children. ( Note: According to his tombstone in the old Grayson Cemetery: Elias P. Davis was born in Prince William Co., Virginia, Feb 14, 1810 and died March 8, 1887. He was a clerk of Carter Circuit and County Courts for 33 years. Served as Captain in Co D 40th Ky Regt, USA in the war of 1861. (Limestone) - our friend, John Miller has again taken charge of the line quarry.

Lawrence Co. (Louisa)- Mrs Ida McConnell of Catlettsburg is visiting her father, Hon. John W Rice. Born on March 11, 1884 to the wife of Sank Hall a son. (Rockville)- Elijah Brooks, oldest citizen of Bear Creek died one day last week. He was once a well to do farmer but when death came he filled a pauper's grave.

Martin Co. - James Ward Sr.,who has been sick so long, was notified last week by the Pension Department that his pension was allowed, it being near 1,000.00. Mrs. Jane Stepp, wife of ex-judge Stepp. died suddenly.

Boyd Co. (Catlettsburg) John Meeks of this city left Sunday for Higginsport, Ohio on business. Frank French is to start a new paper, the Mountain Gazette. John Robinette who has been sick in the court house ever since the flood died Sunday night of dropsy. A 5 year old son of Charles Lawhorn died Sunday morning.

Boyd Co.-Miss Mollie Chinn step-daughter of William Davis and her brother started for Missouri on Tuesday. (notes: Mollie and John Chinn were the children of Willis (deceased) and Sarah Snow Chinn, formerly of Boyd Co Ky. Wm Davis a 3-widower, went to Missouri, married Sarah on 10/23/1883 in Clinton County and brought her and 2 of her 3 children back to Boyd Co with him. Sarah lived with Davis only 4 months (sic) then sued for divorce in 1887. On 9/7/1887 William Daivs married his fifth wife, Martha Abshire, who divorced him the following year. Davis, b. 10/23/1820 comitted suicide on 2/21/1889.

Greenup Co (Hunnewell)- John R Goad is attending school at Flat Gap in Johnson County.

Lawrence Co (Blaine)- Blaine High School has an attendance of 60 students. G M Elam is teacher. (Charley) Green Pennington left for parts unknown taking with him the wife of Daniel Thompson. leaving his own wife and children. (Cherokee)- Mrs. Lou Carter is very low with consumption. (Glenwood)- Dr. Roberts and Maria Kizer married last Thursday. Died on the 18th , R B Lunsford, leaving several children. His wife died some years ago. (Rockville)- Mrs. A J Petry died of typhoid fever and Mrs. John Bellomy from a surgical operation.
