Date Sun, 16 Nov 2003 7:29:42am From "Lilly" <malik@scs-net.org> To KYBOONE-L@rootsweb.com I descend from John Swindle the Revolutionary War Vet, who settled in Boone Co, KY as of the 1820 census there. He is listed on the census as just him and his wife. He moved to Boone Co., KY about 1809. He moved there from VA thru NC with other families: ROUSE and DANIELS. His wife was Hannah Weaver, d/o Hans Deitrich Weaver. This Weaver family are Germanna Community from Culpeper, Madison Co, VA. John Swindle died 8/20/1839 Boone Co., KY Samuel Rouse was a descendant of Johann Rausch/John Rouse, who arrived in America about 1717. He settled with the German immigrants who had formed Fort Germanna. Germanna is a community of German immigrants to Culpeper Co., VA. They had a German language church there which still stands, it is called Hebron Lutheran Church. Samuel Rouse, and his son Michael Rouse both arrived in Boone Co., KY with the earliest settlers from Culpeper, VA and is also shown on the 1820 census with John Swindle at Boone Co, KY. Further more, Samuel Rouse was a Revolutionary War Vet, and testified to the service of John Swindle. John Swindle's daughter Mary baptised 7-7-1776 at Culpeper, VA. married Michael Rouse the son of Samuel Rouse, and they also settled in Boone Co KY and are on the 1830 census there. I am interested in corresponding with any Rouse researchers, as well as any Swindle researchers. There is a book about Boone Co., KY written by Michael Rouse(1). It is mainly a photo book, should be available in libraries. It is published by Arcadia. It is not about the earliest Rouse names, but more from the 1920's period. I still have not located the burial spot for John Swindle and his wife Hannah Weaver Swindle. She may have died about 1850 at Boone Co., KY. If anyone knows of the burial sites of these people, please let me know. In the year 1839 what cemetries might have been used there? Also buried in Boone Co., KY is John's daughter Elizabeth Swindle Daniels and husband Peter Daniels. Also, John's Daughter Mary Swindle Rouse and husband Michael Rouse, as well as Michael's father Samuel Rouse and wife Maria Weaver Rouse. My ancestor John Swindle the Rev War Vet spelled his name as such. But this name is spelled variously:
In the early genealogy of America, these names are all from one Family, they are all the same genealogy. This name Swindle came to America in 1622 and settled in VA and from there to NC, KY, TN, AL, GA. AR. TX, MO and westward later. There is a book called Austin-Swindall families of VA and NC 1662-1995 written by Elihu Jasper Sutherland and his wife Hetty Swindall Sutherland. This book is available at Dickenson Co Pub. Lib. at Clintwood, VA. This book gives the history of the Swindle family, who came to America from England. The name is English, but may have started off in Germany earlier as Schwindel, which means Pig Herder. There is another Swindle family book which is called "The Pig Herders". Just thought I would give a bit of info about the name and the basic genealogy of the family. Best regards,
