In the name of God Amen I Simon Settle of Barren County and State of Kentucky being in a low state of health but of sound mind and disposing memory do make and ordain this as my last will and testament in the manner and form as follows Viz, Imprimis I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Sally Settle during her widowhood or natural life (after paying all my just debts, all my estate both real and personal
Item It is my wish and desire that my wife & my executors shall give to my children as they become of age or marry such property as she can spare conveniently making them equal at all times as can be done with convenience -- and lastly after the death of my wife Sally Settle for my property to be valued and sold on a twelve months credit to the highest bidder and to be divided equally among my children with the exception of one hereafter named. My children (viz) James D Settle George M Settle Susan Ann Lewis Lucy Settle Isaac Settle John Settle Thomas Settle Joseph settle Allen Settle Nathaniel Settle Hayden Settle Sarah Settle Simon Settle Jr Simeon Settle -- I give unto my daughter Sarah Settle one hundred dollars more than the rest of my children or any one of them -- I constitute and appoint my son James D Settle and my friend George Carter to be the executors of this my last will and testament -- In testimony whereof I have set my hand and seal this fourteenth day of August in the year of our Lord 1837 in presence of the undersigned witnesses and acknowledged by me Simon Settle to be my last will and testament

The foregoing writing purporting to be the last will and testament of Simon Settle was on this day produced in court and proven in due form of law by the oaths of Joseph Renfro and John C Feland subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered to be as the true last will of said Simon Settle decd
