Active member of the Glasgow Senior Citizens.Attended Metcalfe County schools and was a childhood member of the Old Blue Spring Baptist Church. Layter joined the First Baptist Church in Glasgow and was the church's oldest living member at her death. Member of the Usher Board, Missionary Society, Gleaners and Sunday School Board. Since moving to Indianapolis, she had affliated with the First Baptist Church North of Indianapolis under Watchcare.
