Virginia Pearl Woodward, 1 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Woodward, Beckton, died last
night at nine o'clock in St. Anthony's Hospital at Louisville, as the result of a bean lodging in her
windpipe yesterday morning.
Upon discovery of the accident the infant was rushed to the Community Hospital here, where an X-ray
examination revealed that the bean, which a large one of the pinto variety, was so situated in her throat
that it could not be extracted here.
So at four-thirty, with one lung already collapsed, the suffering child was taken to St. Anthony's
Hospital in Louisville. The bean was successfully taken out there but only a few minutes after the
operation death occurred. It is unofficially stated that the cause was probably heart failure.
Virginia Pearl was the granddaughter of Col. and Mrs. W. J. Ford Glasgow, and of Esq. A. B. and Mrs. A.
B. Woodward who live about eight miles west of Glasgow on the Upper Bowling Green Road.
Funeral was this afternoon at two-thirty at the Ford residence here. Rev.
Alderson and Rev. Phy conducted the services. Interment was at the cemetery in Hiseville.
