Name: William Daniel Tolle "Ellot"
Known to a host of friends as "Uncle Daniel" Tolle died at his home near the ford of Boyds Creek on the
Burkesville road yesterday morning lacking one day at being 92 years and 8 months old. He was a
bachelor and he and his sister, Miss Samona [sic] J. Tolle 84 years of age were living where they were
born and where they spent their entire lives. During his active years Mr. Tolle ran the farm, bought and
shipped tobacco, ran a saw mill, and was a general pension attorney, as well as legal advisor for his
neighborhood, as well as correspondent for the local newspapers. His was a most useful life for nigh
unto a century.
He was a consecrated member of the Methodist Church, true to all its teachings, a member of the
Masonic fraternity, and a Democrat of the old school. No finer character lived in his section, and while
pronounced in his views was always tolerant of the views of others and was always a good friend of the
Glasgow Republican. The burial will be in the family burial ground near the home today after very brief
services at the residence. Another sister, Mrs. Cook Garner lives on an adjoining farm also survives.
16 Oct 1834 - 15 June 1929.
