"One of the blackest crimes that ever stained the good name of Barren county was committed near Capital Hill last Tuesday night. Mr. Charlie Steenbergen's twenty-five year old daughter, Annie Bell, was shot through the window as she was preparing to retire. The shot took effect in the side of her head and she died instantly. Mr. Hugh Steenbergen's son, Booker, was suspected of the brutal crime, and was arrested and taken to jail. It is time that something was done. If we, as citizens of a civilized community are to be butchered in our own houses something should be done. May the guilty party be found out and receive the punishment justly due him."
