W. B. Smith Dies At His Home In South Glasgow.
Mr W. Basil Smith passed away at his home in South Glasgow Wednesday night at the age of 73 years, after a lingering illness and much
suffering. He was born and reared in the Temple Hill section of Barren county, being a son of the late
Hon. Basil Smith, a former representative in the Legislature.
Mr. Smith came to Glasgow when a young man, and for a generation was connected with the First National Bank as Cashier and then as President, which last position he held for many years. But
for several years his health has been failing, and he was forced to retire from active business.
His wife, who was Miss Annie Huggins, survives him, as do the following children:
Mr. Ed. H. Smith, Mrs. V. R. Jones, Mrs. Ernest Warder, all of Glasgow, Mr. Harry G. Smith and Mr. M. R. Smith of Louisville and Mr. Howard Smith of Springfield, Tenn.
He is also survived by one brother, Mr. Lute H. Smith and one sister, Mrs. Mariah Peden, both of Temple
Hill.
Mr. Smith was one of the most prominent citizens of the county, and was especially prominent in the Baptist church.
His death has cast a sadness over the entire community.
Funeral services will be held in the Baptist church here Friday at 11 o'clock by Rev. T. F. Grider, and the
burial will follow in the Glasgow Cemetery.
