US Army veteran of WW II, graduate of the University of Kentucky, member Immanuel Baptist Church in Glasgow.

Daughters: Maria Carolyn Johnson and husband Virgil of Cave City KY; Marsha
G. Harrison and husband Gary of Windermere FL and Alyce Anne Heberly and husband Rob of Horse Cave.
Grandchildren: Wesley Harrison, Shana Harrison, Chris Heberly, Cheyenne Heverly [sic] and JoyBeth Heberly
Brothers: James Porter Smith and Marvin Ray Smith, both of Louisville KY
Sisters; Pearl Katherine "Kaye" Branstetter of Louisville; Nina Ruth Smith of WV and Martha Ellen Kitchen of Tracey, CA
