DEATH OF MR. J. H. ROGERS.
Died on the 4th
inst, at his home in the Bethel neighborhood, five miles southwest of Glasgow., Joseph H. Rogers, of
disease incident to old age. Had he lived until the first of December next, he would have been 84 years
old.
Mr. Rogers embraced religion in early manhood and lived a peaceable, unassuming life. He was born
and lived all his life in the vicinity in which he died. He was a good man, a kind and obliging neighbor. His
wife preceded him to the grave several years ago. He left five children, Charles, Harvey and Joseph
Patrick, of Illinois, and Mrs. Isadora Lyons. Miss Lucy Ellen and Miss Martha Susan Rogers, of Barren
county, the two later being his mainstay in his declining years. He also had two sisters to survive him,
Mrs. Martha Jane Richey, age 91, and Mrs. Susan Lloyd, aged 89 years. The father of the deceased,
William Rogers, with two brothers, came to this section of country near a century ago from what was
termed the "Holston" country, Tenn., and got in possession of several hundred acres of land. Mrs.
Roger's maiden name was Jackson, a relative of Andrew Jackson, President of the United States.
Funeral services of the deceased were conducted by Rev. Black, of the Temple Hill circuit at 3:30 o'clock
the 5th inst. at the family burying-ground and the remains were placed in the grave by the side of his
wife in the presence of a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends.
