Mrs. Susan J. Nuckols, the venerable mother of Col. J. P. Nuckols and Mr. Ben Nuckols, of this place,
passed peacefully away at the home of her son, Col. J.
P. Nuckols, here, Sunday evening last. Mrs. Nuckols was in her ninetieth year at the time of her death,
which was caused more from the general failure incident to old age than from any specific complaint.
Mrs. Nuckols was one the brightest women who ever lived in Barren county. To an extraordinary
strength of mind, she added a wit that was sharper than a two-edged sword and a fund of common
sense as sound as it was remarkable. In her Spartan simplicity and virtues, in her informitable will power
and great strength of mind, she was a striking type of the splendid womanhood of long ago. At all times,
whether dealing with events long past or with the present, it was an educational privilege and treat to
converse with her. She was, in every respect, a most remarkable lady.
Mrs. Nuckols leaves three living children -- Col. J. P. Nuckols and Mr. Ben Nuckols of this place, and Mr.
Hezzy Nuckols, of Micco, Fla.
The remains were interred in the Odd Fellows cemetery, here, Monday evening last, after appropriate
services by Rev. N. G. Terry, of the Baptist church - of which church the deceased had long been a
faithful and consistent member.
