Son of: Thomas Pemberton Newberry and Willie Winlock Newberry, decd.
Served with US Army in the Pacific Theater during WW II. After leaving the Army, he farmed with his brothers and later worked with the Kentucky Farm Bureau. Graduated Western Kentucky University; member of a family of educators, all of whom taught at some time during their careers. Was a one-room school teacher before entering the war and after the war, he taught Veterans Agriculture Classes. Served in the Kentucky House of Representatives from 1959 thru 1959 and in the State Senate 1964 through 1967. Member of Hiseville Baptist Church, served as deacon for many years before being named Deacon Emeritus.
Former member and vice-chairman of the Glasgow-Barren County Planning Commission, former director of the Hiseville Deposit Bank (now a part of Area Banks), and a director of Newberry Brothers, Inc., a family farm operation.

Sons: James H Newberry Jr. and his wife Cheryl Ann of Lexington, KY; Steven W. Newberry and his wife Vickie of Hiseville.
Grandsons:Walker Newberry of Hiseville and Drew Newberry of Lexington
Sister-in-law: Emily Newberry of Hiseville
2 nieces and 2 nephews.
