James H. MARRS 9 June 1845 - 9 Aug 1926

"Another of the few remaining Federal soldiers and a specially excellent citizen of the countyk passed away in the death of Mr. James H. Marrs, which occured at his home near Temple Hill Monday morning, after a lingering illness from a complication of diseases. Mr. Marrs was a native of Mercer County, where he entered the army at the beginning of the Civil War and made a fine soldier through the war. After his return he settled in this county, and married Mary Foster, who died many years ago. From this union the following children survive: Rev. J. R. Marrs of Campbellsville, Ky., Mr. John E. Marrs of Beaumont, Cal., Mrs. Richie Bacon of near Temple Hill, Mrs. Tom Grizzle of this place, Mrs. Lem Sartin of Muncie, IN. His second wife, who was Miss Myria Bacon, survives with no children. Mr. Marrs leaves one sister, Mrs. Josie Shepherd of Illinois. Mr. Marrs was a member of the Methodist Church and was a man of sterling worth and a high sense of humor. All his children except Mrs. Sartin attended the funeral and burial, which was held in the Peden cemetery, at Mr. John Peden's Tuesday morning."
