"THE DEATH OF MRS. SARAH PARRISH LEWIS DECEMBER 10.
"Mrs. Sarah Parrish Lewis passed away Friday, December tenth, at 8:30 p.m. at the home of her
daughter, Mrs. Isaac Beals, at S. Fork."
"On December 2nd, she celebrated her ninety-first birthday seemingly as well as usual. She was
suddenly taken ill Friday morning and gradually grew worse until the candle burned down."
"Mrs. Lewis was a very remarkable woman, retaining her keen facilities to the last. Realizing that her life was drawing to a close, she attended to her business affairs, arranged the details
of her funeral, gave parting service and comfort to the children gathered round her bed - "set her house
in order," as it were, and awaited the final summons."
"In early life she professed faith in Christ, united with the Baptist church and took up her cross and daily
followed in her Master's footsteps, and never missing opportunity to do a kindly deed or speak a word
for the Christ she loved."
"Mrs. Lewis came of (a) long line of splendid and substantial families such as settled early Virginia. She
was a fine type of genteel womanhood. During her long life she was ever ready to minister to the sick
and needy, mothered several orphans in her home, while she and her husband entertained friends and passers-by with that old-time hospitality that was common in their day.'
"While very few relatives and friends of even her middle life are living, she had a host of friends who admired and loved her wonderful personality."
"She was born in Hawkins county, near St. Clair, Tenn., in 1835. On December 26, 1854, she was married
to Mr. William Lewis, of Scott county, Virginia, and lived in that state until 1887, when they moved to Barren county."
"They had eleven children, six of whom are living. Her husband, who is still remembered and loved by a
host of friends, preceded her to the grave almost fifteen years ago."
"Mrs. Lewis is survived by the following children: Mrs. M. D. Anderson, of Bonham, Texas; Mrs. D. J.
Courtney of Lexington, Ill.; Miss Frances Lewis of Shelbyville, Ky.; Mr Neil Lewis and Mrs. Isaac Beals, of
this place and Mrs. D. G. Smith of Hiseville."
"Mrs. Lewis had living seventeen grand children and twenty great grand children. She is also survived by one half-brother, Mr.Henry Parvin, of St. Clair, Tennessee."
"All her children were at her bedside when the end came except Mrs. Anderson, of Texas. Burial was in the Glasgow cemetery at ten o'clock Sunday morning. Funeral services were conducted at the grave by
Rev. J. P. Brooks."
