Went to school in that area, entered US Army 1942; served as a surgical tech during WW II until 1945. Married Thelma Lee Green, who preceded him in death in 1971. Had been a resident of Barren Co for 30 years and a resident of Newell, IA since his retirement from farming.

Sons: William James and wife Rose of Varina, IA and MIchael of Marana, AZ
Daughters: Sue Johnson of Scottsville, KY and Carol Larkins and husband Melvin of Kearny, AZ
10 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren.
Preceded also in death by son John and brother Chester.
Graveside services 16 May 2000, 2:30 Newell Cemetery, Farber and Otteman Funeral Home of Newell, IA in charge of arrangements.
