As a teenager, helped his father, who was an undertaker in Hiseville until 1929.
Moved to Glasgow then with his family, and with his father worked for F. P. Williams Furniture and Undertaker until 1943. Family purchased the undertaking business and opened Hatcher Funeral Home. Received his funeral director license in 1945. Continued the business with his
parents and sister, Madeline Hatcher Saddler and her husband Harry G Saddler,all of who proceded him in death. Served as president of the Hatcher and Saddler Funeral Home, Inc, member Glasgow Baptist Church, Allen Lodge #24, F&AM. He and wife Tressie had just celebrated their 66th wedding anniveersary on December 23, 2000.

Services: 11 am Saturday, 13 January 2000, Hatcher and Saddler Funeral Home, burial Glasgow Municipal Cemetery.
