"Judge Joel R. Depp. The entire community was shocked and grieved Friday when it was announced that
Judge Joel R. Depp, 66, prominent Metcalfe county citizen, was killed accidentally while hunting hawks
on his farm between Cave Ridge and Edmonton.
"The accident occurred around 4 pm., as Mr. Depp was returning to the house. He was climbing a fence when his gun accidentally went off, the charge striking him in the back of the
head. Two men working in a field nearby heard the report and saw him fall over the fence. Death was
instantaneous.
"Mr. Depp was one of the most prominent and best known citizens of Metcalfe county, having served as
County Judge and Sheriff of that county. He was also a director in the Farmers Rural Electric Cooperative
Corporation and was very active in this work at the time of his death.
"Active in all civic affairs of his community, he was a farmer of means, and commanded the respect and
admiration of all who knew him. His untimely death will be deeply regretted by his many friends and
relatives in Barren and Metcalfe counties.
"Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Dora Dougherty Depp; two sons, Messrs. Philip Depp, Wheeling, West
Va., and Robert Depp, at home; three sisters, Mrs.
Angie Larimore, Glasgow; Mrs. L. C. Biggers, Temple Hill; Mrs. Genie Eubank, Pratt, Kansas, and three
brothers, Dr. W. G. Depp, Summer Shade; P. W. Depp, Glasgow, and C. Y. Depp, Glasgow, Route five.
"Funeral services were held at the Glasgow Methodist Church here Sunday at 2 pm., the Revs. J. L. Piercy
and Allen Phy in charge. Burial was in the Glasgow cemetery."

"Funeral services for Judge Joel R. Depp, who died at his home in Metcalfe County Friday, were
conducted at the Glasgow Methodist Church Sunday at 2 p.m. The Rev. Allen Phy, pastor of the Glasgow
Church of Christ and the Rev.
J. L. Piercy, Methodist pastor of Scottsville, officiated. burial was in the Glasgow Cemetery.
"Active pallbearers were Kirby Peden, Rex Smith, James Depp, Joseph Depp, Frank Depp and Tom Tepp.
"Honorary pallbearers were Russell Dougherty, Paul Piercy, Joe Dougherty, Billy Dougherty, William
Depp, Elston Depp, Garnett Smith, Tom Biggers, Jack Biggers, William Biggers, L. L. Wells, Kirk Bell, Tom
Reid, Andy Frazier and Luther Ray."
