Born: Nobob community of Barren Co 3 July 1901.
Attended the University of Kentucky where he was a charger member of the Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity. Taught school in Barren County 3 yers; principal of Temple Hill Consolidated School. Graduated
University of Louisville School of Medicine 1930; there was a member of the Phi Chi fraternity. In private
practice in Louisville; worked at the old Waverly Hills Sanitorium 1931-34. 1934-42 practiced general and
pulmoary medicine in Glasgow. 1942-51 and 1962-72 was director of the Richland Co OH TB Sanitorium
in Mansfield, OH. Superintendent and medical director of the old Hazlewood Sanitorium in Louisville
1951-62 and also at the same time served as adjunct professor of medicine at the University of
Louisville. While at Hazlewood, was a participant in the US Public Health Service's research program to
advance knowledge of lung diseases. 1971 he was honored by having the Richland Co OH outpatient
clinic named for him. Retired from the director's position in Richland Co 1972; worked in various public
health positions in Louisville until retirement from the Jefferson Co Public Health Department in 1982.
Named Kentucky's Outstanding Tree Farmer 1991, received the Governor's Environmental Award for
Tree Farming 1992. Member of Our Lady of the Lourdes Catholic Church, American Medical Medical
Association, American College of Chest Physicians, American and Kentucky Trudeau Societies American
Thoracic Society, Kentucky and Ohio State Medical Associations, American Forestry Association, The
Nature Convervancy, Sons of the American Revolution, Filson Club, The Memorial Foundation of the
Germanna Colonies, The South Central Kentucky Historical and Genealogical Society, former member of
the Kentucky Historical Society.
