Mr. Baird Dead. Mr. Eugene Baird died at his home near Goodnight last Wednesday afternoon at four
o'clock. His death was due to a complication of diseases, following a severe stroke of paralysis, suffered
February 8th. The recent death of his son, Mr. Wood Baird, also greatly contributed to his death, as he
was devotedly attached to him, and constantly mentioned him during the illness.
Mr. Baird was in his fifty-ninth year.
He is survived by his wife, who was Miss Maggie Wood before her marriage, and two daughters, Miss
Mary Baird and Mrs. Harold Wilson, both of Goodnight, and one son, Mr. Yancey Baird.
Funeral services were at the residence last Friday afternoon at two thirty o'clock, conducted by Rev. E.
W. Elliott, of the Christian church, with burial immediately thereafter in the Rogers' burying ground.
Mr. Baird's death followed that of his son, Mr. Wood Baird, and his sister, Mrs. Milton Davis, only a few
days, and removes from Barren county one of the most useful and most successful citizens. He was a
man of simple tastes and habits, and of open, frank, honest dealing, and enjoyed the esteem and
confidence of many friends and acquaintenances.
By his honesty and good management he amassed considerable wealth, and his fine farm of near
fifteen hundred acres, is telling evidence of his frugal, useful and open life.
Truly, a good man has gone - and a mighty oak has fallen.
