Military: U S Army, serving in the last American Cavalry Unit to be disbanded, completed service as an infantryman serving in France and Germany in 1944 and 1945, participated in the Battle of the Bulge.
Joined MN Department of Conservation 1957 as a game warden stationed at Bigfork, MN, promoted to Regional Enforcement Supervisor 1966, appointed Assistant Commissioner for Administration 1971. Began his position as Commissior of the Dept. of Natural Resources 1978, served until retirement in 1991. Outspoken conservationist, sought-after speaker (more than 50 annually), made regular television appearences.
Held Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Administration from Metropolitan State University.
Married first to Ruth, married secondly to Shirley Hunt, who survives.
